Over 4 weeks, you will be taught the basics of how to play underwater hockey. Each week will include a 15 minute session out of the water, plus a 1 hour session in the water.
It is an unusual sport, so we will start with the basics and build up skills each week. It does take a while to get really good at underwater hockey, but most enthusiastic swimmers can get going pretty quickly. At the end of the course, you will know whether you've found your new favourite team sport!
Session One: We will sort out gear and teach you how to use it, how to dive underwater with a snorkel, how to push a puck along the bottom, and the basic positions in a team. And play your first game.
Session Two: We will work on more skills including flicking the puck and defending it, and what forward and back players do. And of course we will play some fun games too.
Session Three: We will do some one vs. one skills, learn what specific positions do, and explain key rules and fouls. We'll then apply these in games.
Session Four: We will wrap up the course by consolidating the skills with a big night of games with short breaks for coaching.

Frequently asked questions:
1. My child is only 9. Can they come? Sorry, no. It's not recommended to teach children to snorkel when younger than 10.
2. What if we miss a week? You can come on another Sunday after the course, but you might not get the same dedicated introductory course content.
3. Do parents need to come? An adult parent or guardian needs to stay in the pool area during the training for safety purposes, but parents are not required to get into the pool. Parents are welcome to get in the pool if they want to. It's the only way to spectate this sport!
4. Is it safe? Of course there are the normal risks associated with water. Underwater hockey is a non contact sport but minor injuries may occur from accidental contact with players, sticks and puck. The sign up form will explain the risks in more detail and how to reduce them.
5. Is there a refund if my child quits before finishing the 4 weeks? Sorry, there's no refunds.
