First you need the usual things for swimming under water:
To play underwater hockey you do need some specific equipment:
We have all of these things available for beginners to use when they come and try.
Some players like optional extras such as fin savers, socks/booties, mouth guards, mask straps.
Goals are also required for each end of the pool. And of course, a weighted puck.
We provide these for all trainings and games.
Once you are hooked on this exceptional sport, you'll want to get your own gear.
True Blue Underwater Hockey Supplies sells a wide range of UWH specific gear via their web site: www.true-blue.com.au. There is also Hydro, a New Zealand based business https://hydrouwh.com/
How much does your own UWH gear cost? A pair of caps is around $35, a pair of sticks range from $35 to $70, and a glove $70. So around $140 to get kitted up.
You can also make your own glove for under $20 using a cotton glove, silicon and acrylic paint (google “Make your own underwater hockey glove”). When choosing colours, avoid yellow, red, orange or pink so they are not confused with referees’ gloves or the puck.
High performance masks, snorkels and flippers can be purchased from any scuba diving store. If you are relatively new to the sport, talk to other players to see what gear they like and why.
